Porridge - ENG🥣

Aggiornamento: 12 mag 2020

Breakfast is certainly the most important moment of the day; the ideal one should be a perfectly balanced meal, with an adequate but not excessive caloric intake and which, therefore, does not weigh down digestion.

In order to better face the day, from the early hours of the morning, the ideal breakfast must provide about 20% of the daily calories, which in numbers translates into 250/300 calories.

Today we propose you the famous Porridge, an Anglo-Saxon breakfast, which is now becoming a popular choice for Italians too.

Porridge has British origins. It is a cereal, barley or oat soup that can be cooked in water or milk. It was born as a savory dish and was used to thicken legumes, meats or vegetables soups. The most common sweet variant is the one based on oats. Particularly consumed in northern Europe, from a dish of poor origin it has become a gourmet dish and a favorite food by fitness addicted.

Let's see what do we need.

Ingredients:

  • 50 g oat flakes

  • 230 g of liquid (100 g vegetable milk and 130 water)

  • A pinch cinnamon

  • Something sweet (honey or maple syrup) to add at the end as topping

  • A pinch salt

Preparation:

  1. Pour the oat flakes, water and milk in a small pot (a pinch of cinnamon and salt if you like it) and bring to the boil over medium heat.

  2. The cooking time and consistency vary a lot depending on your taste and on how long you decide to cook your flakes. In any case, the Porridge must be thickened.

  3. For a more liquid Porridge it will take about 5/6 minutes from boiling, otherwise you can extend the cooking up to 20 minutes.

  4. Try it and you will find your favorite texture!!

Decorations:

  • Banana cut into rings

  • Freeze-dried cranberries

  • Coconut flakes

  • 1 teaspoon peanut butter

  • Honey and maple syrup

However, the solutions are almost infinite: you can garnish with dried fruit (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts); with raspberries and blueberries; seasonal fruit; maple syrup; honey; chia seeds...

What are you waiting for ?! You just have to try and show us your creations! Bon appétit! ☕
